Just, read some books. Reading a code without no knowledge will not help you learnig Java, VB.net or C++.

Build simple applications in VB.NET about message boxes and buttons, text boxes.
Make your way up.
With java, try looking for some tutorials printing "Hello World" and then make your way up.

I'd have to disagree with that.

Find source code for small programs, research the functions and what things do and you shall start learning the process. You add that with books and tutorials and you will start learning in no time.

I learned from doing, I am a C++ programmer and have been for about 10 years. I started by looking at others work, using their source as an example. I asked questions in forums about certain things I didn't understand and such and got help that way. Tutorials are great resources as well.

Good luck!
